"‘Cause there’s a hunger, a longing to escape from the life I live when I’m awake."

Higher is a song sung by Creed. It’s track number 7 on the music album entitled Human Clay. It was written by Mark Tremonti and Scott Stapp.

What do you think about this song? The entirety of Higher sounds pretty depressing when you really look at it. But let’s focus our attention on the quote mentioned above, which is also depressing.

The words from the song Higher by Creed just scream sadness and pain and despair. Feeling hungry like you’re starving - this isn’t just about food.

Maybe you’re feeling hungry for love and understanding. Or maybe it is about a literal hunger and you’re feeling that way because you’re having some financial problems.

“Longing to escape” - if you were happy, you wouldn’t feel like wanting to escape, right?

But if you’re feeling overwhelmed by all of your problems, if you feel like you can’t take this anymore, then you’d want to escape and just leave everything behind, right?

If reality is too cold, cruel and harsh for you, then you’d want to leave, you’d want to escape from your horrid life.

And this makes this quote from Creed even more depressing - because it implies that your dreams, that fantasy, is much better than reality and that you’d rather sleep forever than wake up and face the nightmare that your life has become.
